Why More Single Women Are Buying Homes Than Single Men

This stat will change how you think about who’s really driving the housing market.

Words I like:  Autodidact - Greek for “self-taught.” Knowledge pursued by curiosity, not curriculum.

Pablo’s Perspective:

Single women are securing homeownership at significantly higher rates than their male counterparts. That’s according to a new LendingTree analysis of US Census Bureau data, which found that single women own about 2.72 million more homes than single men.

I posted this on Threads the other day and the comments lit up: I received over a thousand comments and yup I read them all..

After reading the comments, it seems everyone fell into four groups: 1. Bitter women who attacked me, the question, and everything else 2. Thoughtful women who offered solid insight 3. Men who clearly hate women 4. Logical men who explained their views well

The main takeaway:

Most single women prioritize buying a home, while most single men don’t consider it a priority until they have a family.

And here’s the wild part:

Women are doing this despite earning less, on average.

Women earn about 83 cents for every dollar men earn.
(Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2023)

Less money. More action.

Why?

Because for many women, a home represents security, stability, and independence.
It’s not just about an asset. It’s about peace of mind.

Meanwhile, a lot of men (myself included) don’t seriously think about buying a house until they’re settling down or starting a family.

For many women, buying a home means control, security, freedom.
For many men? No urgency — until life forces it (family, kids, marriage).

Here’s the mindset shift:

👉 Homeowners have a much higher net worth than renters.

Here’s the key stat (source: Federal Reserve, Survey of Consumer Finances, 2022):

  • Median net worth of U.S. homeowners: $396,200

  • Median net worth of U.S. renters: $10,400

In other words:
👉 Homeowners’ median net worth is nearly 40x higher than that of renters.

Why?
Because real estate builds equity — renters are paying someone else’s mortgage, homeowners are building their own net worth.

The market rewards the decisive, not the most informed.
